Shaun and Helen with Hear the Chimes
and our former conditional jockey Aiden Blakemore
after winning at Ludlow
Shaun has been involved with horses from an early age, his late father had a successful horse transport business and his mother ran a stud and prepared horses for the sales. Mucking out before school and evening stables afterwards was the normal routine for Shaun and he became a jockey after leaving school. Later on he ran his own transport business focusing mainly on racehorses and the contacts made led him to become an assistant trainer.
Shaun always wanted to become a trainer and is passionate about his career. He has held a full trainer’s licence for over 10 years now.
In his own words “I always dreamed of being a trainer and it is a privilege to get the chance, even if life is occasionally tough. There is a nothing I like better than getting a horse to reach its full potential and I am willing to give horses the time they need”.
Helen is a qualified chartered accountant with an MBA and has many years’ experience in business as well as owning horses and being an active competitor in dressage, showjumping and eventing (although that was a few years ago!). Helen is responsible for keeping the business side of things running smoothly and effectively (amongst other things) and trying to organise Shaun. Helen also does her fair share of yard work and makes sure all our horses get regular meals!
We have a small team of dedicated staff who each play a key role in the preparation and care of the horses.
Team ethos is important to us, our successes are built on team work where everyone plays a part and everyone’s contribution is valued.
The yard is also supported by visiting farriers, vets, physiotherapists , dentists and others. These specialists play a key role in keeping our horses in good health.
